Material as a starting point

Every project starts from an initial choice: material.

A certain type of leather, of technical fabric, satin or cotton are never simple a support to work on. They are instead surfaces with specific features, different reactions, possibilities and constraints that a professional must be familiar with before imagining a product. Every material requires a specific interpretation: the way it absorbs, gives back, supports or transforms the decoration process are all different.

This very expertise is what shapes our development process.

Over time, this ability to read and interpret materials has enabled us to gradually expand our field of application. Goretti was first active in the footwear industry and then expanded to leather, and today it also harnesses its expertise in the clothing industry, by developing techniques on an ever-greater range of fabrics for the leading fashion brands on the market.

Research starts in the Style Office

The foundation of this journey is the day-to-day work done by our Style Office, which is all about constantly observing, selecting and experimenting on materials, surfaces and trends.

Along with specific customer requests, we carry out in-house research to identify new supports, test them through our techniques and assess them before they become new potential products to share in the collection development process.

Through this activity we can be prepared to exchange views with brands and offer them tried and tested ideas, technical expertise and application options that are consistent with the project’s requirements.

A district dedicated to materials

To support this activity, Goretti has an internal area that is fully dedicated to material management: it’s a space designed to order, store and immediately provide fabrics, leather and supports to be used in research, sampling and production activities.

On the one hand, materials selected by our Style Office are stored here for in-house experimentation work. On the other, materials that are entrusted directly to customers are stored, so as to guarantee consistency between the initial trials, sample development and production stage.

This system reduces response times, streamlines the shift from research to production and enables greater flexibility in the work activities. To have materials that are internally available and traceable is to be fast, to be able to compare solutions, repeat tests and provide more precise answers to brands’ requirements.

From footwear to clothing: constantly evolving expertise

Every new material offers new possibilities, but it also entails new challenges. Surfaces change, as do more suitable techniques and the necessary techniques to obtain a result that is consistent with the initial idea.

That is why we continue to invest in research and to expand our range of samples, with ever greater attention being paid to the clothing industry too. Working on fabrics means dealing with types of supports that are different from those traditionally linked to footwear and leather, but it also means applying consolidated skills in a field that requires deep understanding, precision and adaptability.

Our recent participation in Milano Unica is a key part of this journey. It was a great opportunity for us to present our approach to the fabric world, as we exchanged ideas with the market and strengthened our presence in the clothing industry, by creating a vibrant dialogue between Goretti applications and new surfaces and new design requirements.
